Arthur belongs to Marc Brown and American Idol belongs to Simon Fuller
It was summer on a Saturday afternoon, Arthur's parents had gone out to do some errands and will return for an hour, so they put Arthur in charge for his younger sisters D.W. and Kate. Arthur was told that it's too hot to be outdoors it was 98 degrees, so they have to be inside so they won't get a heatstroke.
"Can we please go outside to play?" D.W. asked.
"Sorry, but we can't. Mom wants us inside it's too hot to go outdoors it's 98 degrees. She doesn't want any of us to get a heatstroke." Arthur told his sister.
"I'm bored." D.W. replied.
"You can do something inside to keep you busy." Arthur suggested.
"I'll go watch Mary Moo Cow." D.W. said.
She did went to go watch it. Ten minutes before Arthur's parents return, D.W. almost sneaked to go outdoors when Arthur caught her just in time.
"Hold on. Where are you going?" Arthur asked.
"Going outside." D.W. replied.
"I already told you, we can't. Mom said so." Arthur said.
"You're not the boss." D.W. replied rudely.
"Mom and Dad put me in charge of me and Kate, so they said you have to obey. Disobeying can result in punishment." Arthur warned her.
Nine minutes later and a second before his parents came home, Arthur rushed right upstairs to the bathroom. That was when his parents returned. D.W. was watching one of her Mary Moo Cow videos. In the bathroom, Arthur's been in there for quite awhile as Mrs. Read knocked on the door and opened it.
"Are you ok, honey?" Mrs. Read asked.
"Yeah, I just got the diarrhea." Arthur said.
"Do you want some Gatorade when you come out?" Mrs. Read asked.
"Yes please. That'd be great." Arthur replied.
When he came out twenty to twenty-five minutes later, he did have Gatorade. Then Arthur felt nausea as he rushed back upstairs to the bathroom as he started throwing up.
Mrs. Read came in and noticed that as she comforted him.
"It's ok, I'm here." Mrs. Read replied.
After he threw up, he was warm he had a fever of 101.2 degrees. He went to go lie down for awhile.
"You can put on your PJs, sweetie." Mrs. Read told him.
"Ok." Arthur said.
So he did that. He lied down for the rest of the afternoon. He didn't want anything for dinner except for Chicken Noodle Soup. After he had that, he threw up again the soup came back up. He came down with the stomach flu after that.
The next day, he was much better. He had the radio on when he heard the announcements for American Idol.
"American Idol auditions will take place in the following: New York City on Tuesday, Chicago on Wednesday, Orlando on the following Tuesday, and Nashville on the following Wednesday. For the first time, there will be young kids ages 8 and up can audition." The radio announcer said.
"Neat. That sounds exciting." Arthur replied.
"And a great idea for you to do so." Mrs. Read added.
"Really? I can try-out?" Arthur asked.
"Of course." Mrs. Read replied.
"Awesome. Thanks, Mom." Arthur said.
Arthur can hardly wait for that day in New York City.

Later that day, Arthur was with his friends at Sugar Bowl.
"You look really excited today." Fern said after noticing that.
"I am. I'm going to be on American Idol auditions. I heard it on the radio and my mom said I can try-out." Arthur told his friends.
"No way!" Francine exclaimed.
"My mom is going to sign me up for it." Arthur said. "For the time ever there's going to be young kids ages 8 and up."
"Perfect age for you." Brain replied.
"I know. One's in New York City on Tuesday, Chicago on Wednesday, Orlando on the following Tuesday, and Nashville on the following Wednesday." Arthur told him.
"New York City? Awesome." The others exclaimed.
"Good luck." Sue Ellen replied.
"We'll be watching out for you." Buster said.
"Ok." Arthur replied.
Binky and Rattles came in as Arthur told them about American Idol.
"Bet you won't make it." Binky said.
"I bet that too." Rattles replied.
"Oh yeah?" Arthur asked. "How much?"
"One week of slavery." Binky replied.
They laughed even Arthur laughed as he looked at them.
"You're on." Arthur replied. "You both could be Francine's slaves since if I make it I won't be coming back."
"Good idea." Francine replied. "How about that, boys?"
"Ok. It's a deal." Binky said.
"Same here." Rattles replied.
"It'll be so funny to see you both to be slaves." Arthur said.
The others laughed again. After lunch, they went over to Muffy's house to hang out.
"I'll be having a sleepover this Saturday." Muffy told her friends.
"Those auditions start Tuesday we'll see what happens." Arthur replied.
"Let us know what happens." Sue Ellen said.
"What song are you singing for the auditions?" Francine asked.
"Not sure." Arthur replied.
"Maybe 'Moment Like This'." Brain replied.
"Sounds good to me or 'Always a Way' from Lazy Town. My cousin's girlfriend Anne who's my friend is doing Lazy Town espiodes she'll be playing Stephanie." Arthur told them. "She's calling me later tonight."
"Anne's the actress, too?" Fern asked.
"Yes. She goes to a special acting school in Hollywood she used to live in New York City because she was transferred there. She's an orphan her parents died when she was six her mom died of an illness and her dad died of AIDS. They were six months apart. Her dad had AIDS before and after her mom died. Anne's been missing them too much." Arthur explained.
"Yikes. Poor Anne." Buster replied.
"I know. I felt bad for her. She still has no home. She's staying at that special school for both actors and actresses. The school has a campus. She's the only orphan there." Arthur continued.
That night, the phone rang.
"Hello?" Arthur asked after he picked up the phone.
"Arthur?" Anne asked.
"Hi, Anne, how are you?" Arthur asked.
"Fine thanks." Anne replied.
"Excited to start the espiodes for Lazy Town?" Arthur asked.
"I sure am." Anne replied.
"Did anyone adopted you?" Arthur asked.
"No." Anne said.
"That's too bad, isn't it?" Arthur asked.
"Yep." Anne said.
Anne is Arthur's age. His cousin is Derek who's nine.
"Have you seen Derek at all yet?" Anne asked.
"Not much." Arthur replied. "When I do sometimes, he talks about you and missing you."
"I've been thinking about you and Derek day and night." Anne said.
"I'm going to try-out for American Idol in New York City on Tuesday." Arthur said.
"That's cool." Anne replied.
"I'm going to do 'Always a Way'." Arthur replied.
"Good song choice." Anne commented.
"Thanks." Arthur replied. "The tough customers Rattles and Binky bet me that I won't make it."
"Oh really. How much did they bet you?" Anne asked.
"An easy one. One week of slavery. If I make it though, they could be Francine's slaves." Arthur told her.
Anne and Arthur laughed.
"That's the funny bet." Anne still laughing.
"I agree. So we agreed on it." Arthur replied.
"I hope you make it so those boys can be the slaves." Anne said.
"Thanks. So do I." Arthur replied.
"I wish you luck." Anne said.
"Thanks. Maybe I'll end up seeing you in Hollywood." Arthur said.
"I would love that." Anne said.
They were done talking ten minutes later. Arthur still couldn't wait to try-out for American Idol.

On Tuesday, Mrs. Read and Arthur headed off to New York City for the auditions. Arthur couldn't wait.
"This is going to be so exciting for me." Arthur replied.
When they got to there, Arthur couldn't believe how big it was. He had the number 9098 sticker.
"They'll call your number." The lady said.
"Ok. Thanks" Arthur replied.
They went to the room with the bunch of the other people who are auditioners including his age and up. The two oldest kids were 15 and 17. Arthur noticed the TV in the corner with the people starting to audition.
"Look, Mom, you can see people on that TV in the corner." Arthur said to his mother.
"That sounds terrific for us to know when you're next." Mrs. Read replied.
Then the host Ryan Seacrest came by he was a Rat. Arthur got really excited.
"Oh my. You're the host Ryan Seacrest." Arthur replied.
"That's me." Ryan said.
"You're one of the best hosts ever. My grandmother watches American Idol all the time." Arthur told the host.
"Thank you very much." Ryan said.
"So here I am to audition I heard the announcement on the radio the other day." Arthur replied.
"9098 is up next." The lady announced on the intercom.
"That's us." Arthur said.
"Come on." Ryan replied.
"I can't wait to audition and meet the judges." Arthur said.
They went to the judges' room.
"Good luck. No matter what happens, I'm proud of you." Mrs. Read replied.
"Thanks." Arthur replied as he went in the room.
"Hello. You're Arthur Read from Elwood City right?" A cat judge Paula asked.
"Sure am. You guys must be Paula, Randy, and Simon." Arthur replied.
"That's correct. Want to tell us about yourself?" A pug judge Randy asked.
"I'm eight years old. My grandmother watches your show all the time. That's why I'm here, plus I heard the announcement on the radio." Arthur told them.
"What kid song you'll be singing for us today?" Paula asked.
"I'll be singing 'Always a Way' from Lazy Town. A friend who'll be playing Stephanie taught me this song." Arthur replied.
"Ok." Paula replied.
"If things don't work out like you want this time around you can try to turn the problem upside down there's no use in crying you gotta keep trying because in the end you will discover there is always a way you gotta know you can make it there is always you gotta believe in yourself soon you'll be shining because you never stopped trying really believe there is always a way. Always a way you gotta know you can make it there is always a way. You gotta believe it you gotta believe it. Always a way. Always a way you gotta know you can make it there is always you gotta believe in yourself soon you'll be shining because you never stopped trying really believe there is always a way." Arthur sang.
"You were excellent. You have a good singing voice." Paula commented.
"Thanks." Arthur replied.
"I totally agree with Paula." A bear judge Simon agreed. "So far you're one of the best singers here."
"And you remembered it by heart. So I say yes for Hollywood." Randy said.
"Me, too." The cat replied.
"Welcome to Hollywood." Simon said.
Arthur didn't know what to say because when he got the ticket he wanted to surprise his mother.
"How did it go?" Mrs. Read asked.
"I'm going to Hollywood." Arthur said showing her the golden ticket.
"How did you feel about that?" Ryan asked.
"I didn't know what to say my mouth dropped as a shocking way." Arthur replied.
Then there he was in an interview.
"Hollywood, here I come. I'll see you, Timmy and Anna when I get there." Arthur said. "Sorry, Binky and Rattles, but you lost the bet, so you'll be Francine's slaves for a week. Good luck."

*note- I do not own the song, Tomorrow. It's one of my favorite songs.*
That night, Arthur was still thrilled about making it to the next round so far. After several states for auditions, he's finally in Hollywood!
"I can't wait for the next round," smiled Arthur.
He found out he and the three other kids were going to sing in a group. They decided to do Tomorrow. They practiced a lot until the next round was about to begin.
"What are you kids are going to sing for this round?" asked Simon.
"We'll be singing Tomorrow," replied a cat girl named Lila Morse. "We'll be taking turns singing each verse."
"It's one of our favorite songs," said a boy cub named Oliver Tritt.
The song begins.
"The sun'll come out tomorrow bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there'll be sun," sang a girl moose named Savannah Gomes.
"Just thinking about tomorrow clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow 'til there's none," sang Lila.
"When I'm stuck with a day that's gray and lonely, I just stick out my chin and grin and say... oh," sang Arthur.
"The sun'll come out tomorrow so you gotta hang on 'til tomorrow. Come what may," sang Oliver.
"Tomorrow, tomorrow I love ya tomorrow you're always a day away. Tomorrow, tomorrow I love ya tomorrow you're always a day... away!" sang the kids as the song ended.
"Very good teamwork," said Paula.
"We'll call you back out shortly," said Simon.
"Okay," said Arthur who was getting excited.
Later, all of the auditioners were back on stage.
"First four are Arthur Read, Oliver Tritt, Savannah Gomes, and Lila Morse to be on stage," announced Simon.
They came on stage.
"We made a decision," said Randy.
They were holding each other's hands.
"Congratulations, you're all moving ahead," said Paula.
"Sweet!" exclaimed Oliver.
"Thank you," said Savannah.
They all got excited as they headed back out.
"We all made it," said Arthur.
"How did you all feel about it?" asked Ryan.
"We're all very excited," replied Lila.
"They loved the way we did the song Tomorrow as teamwork," added Oliver.
"The final part is the top 20 tomorrow after top 40 get chosen, how would you might feel if you made it far?" asked Ryan.
"I would be very happy. I felt like I'm on cloud nine," replied Savannah.
"I'd be thrilled," added Arthur.
That night, all sixty achieved singers were waiting anxiously in all six rooms, which were divided into ten groups each. Arthur, Oliver, Savannah, and Lila are four of the ten in one of the rooms.
When the judges made their choices, they came into the hotel room and Arthur was getting anxious. When they were told they were moving on, they were thrilled!
"Oh, my goodness!" exclaimed Arthur in his excited voice.
The big decision is top twenty is coming up tomorrow and it can be a tough one. Arthur was too excited to sleep that night. The next day, it was the big day.
"The top forty are anxious to find who's going to be top twenty and who's dreams would be crushed," said Ryan.
Arthur was the forth person to go up and when he got up there, he was already told he'd be in the top twenty.
"You're kidding me!" exclaimed Arthur.
"Congratulations," smiled Paula.
In the evaluator, he was thrilled.
"I can't believe I'm actually going to be on the show. This is really exciting," said Arthur. "I can't wait to tell my family."
Out there, Arthur told Ryan and everyone was thrilled for them.
"How are you feeling about your son being on American Idol as top twenty?" asked Ryan.
"I'm very proud of him. No matter what happens, I'd be still proud of him," replied Mrs. Read.
"We'd wish him luck," smiled Mr. Read.
"When they told me, I was like 'You're kidding me!'. I was really excited," added Arthur.

"Now here's Arthur Read singing Broken Wing by Martina McBride," announced Ryan.
Arthur got on the stage as the song started.
"She loved him like the last man on earth. She gave him everything she ever had. He'd break her spirit down then come loving up on her. She'd tell him about her dreams- he'd just shoot'em down. Lord, he loved to make her cry. You're crazy for believing you'll ever leave the ground. He said only angels know how to fly. And with a broken wing, she still sings. She keeps an eye on the sky. With a broken wing, she carries her dreams. Man,you ought to see her fly. With a broken wing, she carries her dreams. Man, you ought to see her… fly!" sang Arthur as the song ended.
The audience applauded as Ryan came to Arthur.
"It's time to judge. We'll start with Randy," said Ryan.
"That was excellent. You picked the right song for you. You're very talented so far. Good job," commented Randy.
"Thank you," said Arthur happily.
"What do you think about Arthur, Paula?" asked Ryan.
"I agree with Randy. Just keep up with the good work," replied Paula.
"Last but not least, Simon," said Ryan.
"You have a strong singing voice and I like it," commented Simon. "Just keep doing a great job."
"Thank you," replied Arthur.
"How do you feel about those comments?" asked Ryan.
"I feel happy about it," replied Arthur who was thrilled.
"How would you feel if you make it to top nineteen?" asked Ryan.
"I'd be very excited," smiled Arthur. "I can't wait to see what's going to happen."
"The results are tomorrow night," said Ryan.
The following day, they did the results in order who sang first to last.
"Arthur, please stand up," said Ryan as he stood up. "You sang Broken Wing. All the judges agreed you did a good job. Did the voters agree with them? And they did, that means you're safe."
Arthur was thrilled about that as he sat down. One of the adults got voted off from the bottom three. The one who sang Indepance Day was way off key. The judges agreed that was the right move for the voters.
After the show, Arthur was still excited about being in the top ninteen.
"You must be very happy about this, honey," smiled his mother.
"I sure am," Arthur smiled back. "I could picture myself being the American Idol winner already."
"Even if you didn't, we'd still be proud of you," said Mrs. Read.
"True, but I'd be crushed," replied Arthur.

Arthur was on stage as the song started.
"If tomorrow all the things were gone, I'd worked for all my life. And I had to start again, with just my friends and family. I'd thank my lucky stars, to be livin here today. 'Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that away. And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA. I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today. 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land, God bless the... USA," sang Arthur as the song ended.
The audience applauded.
"It's time for the judges to make comments," said Ryan coming to Arthur.
"Arthur, you did it again. Your singing voice is perfect," said Randy.
"I enjoy your singing as well," said Paula.

"Thanks," said Arthur.
"How did you feel about this?" asked Ryan.
"Very excited," replied Arthur.
"Arthur is very talented," said Simon. "That's why we decided to move him forward."
The next day, Arthur could not wait to see if he was going to move forward to be in top 18. After all, he was super talented like the judges said. That night, it was time for the results. Lee Greenwood performed God Bless the USA. Later, it was time to see who's staying and who's going home tonight.
"Arthur, you're the first one to stand up," said Ryan as Arthur did. "You sang God Bless the USA. All the judges loved your singing voice. Did the voters agreed with the judges? And they did, you are safe."

"Good luck to you," said Ryan.
"Thanks," said Arthur.
"Here's Arthur Read as he performs I Walk the Line by Johnny Cash," said Ryan.
He was in the center of the stage as the song started.
"I keep a close watch on this heart of mine. I keep my eyes wide open all the time. I keep the ends out for the tie that binds because you're mine, I walk the line. I find it very, very easy to be true. I find myself alone when each day is through. Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you because you're mine, I walk the line. As sure as night is dark and day is light. I keep you on my mind both day and night and happiness I've known proves that it's right because you're mine, I walk the line. You've got a way to keep me on your side. You give me cause for love that I can't hide for you I know I'd even try to turn the tide because you're mine, I walk the line. I keep a close watch on this heart of mine. I keep my eyes wide open all the time. I keep the ends out for the tie that binds because you're mine, I walk the line," sang Arthur as the song ended.
The audience clapped as Ryan appeared.
"Okay. It's time for the judges to start make comments," said Ryan. "Randy, what did you think?"
"That was the best choice for you. Even though you mention you didn't know much about Johnny Cash, you just started singing that song perfectly," said Randy.
"I agree. Not everyone knows about him, but they try their best, which you had the courage to do so," said Paula.
"You sang like Johnny Cash for your age and was excellent," said Simon.
"Thank you," said Arthur.
The following day, he was safe once again and the one who was voted off was Jack Moore, who sang Hurt. The song wasn't the right choice.

The song started.
"Lord Almighty, I feel my temperature rising higher higher. It's burning through to my soul. Girl, girl, girl. You gonna set me on fire. My brain is flaming. I don't know which way to go. Your kisses lift me higher like the sweet song of a choir. You light my morning sky. With burning love. Ooh, ooh, ooh, I feel my temperature rising. Help me, I'm flaming. I must be a hundred and nine. Burning, burning, burning. And nothing can cool me. I just might turn into smoke, but I feel fine. Cause your kisses lift me higher like a sweet song of a choir and you light my morning sky with burning love. It's coming closer. The flames are reaching my body. Please won't you help me. I feel like I'm slipping away. It's hard to breath. And my chest is a-heating. Lord Almighty, I'm burning a hole where I lay. Cause your kisses lift me higher like the sweet song of a choir. You light my morning sky with burning love. With burning love. Ah, ah, burning love. I'm just a hunk, a hunk of burning love. Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love. Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love. Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love. Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love. Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love," sang Arthur as the song ended.
"That was amazing. You pick the right song choices and you would sing like the actual artists," commented Randy.
"I totally agree with Randy. Keep up the good work," added Paula.
"Your voice is never pitchy. That's what the singing competition is all about," said Simon.
"Thank you," said the aardvark.
Randy came up and said, "How did you feel about those comments?"
"I feel great. I knew I would do it," said Arthur.
The following night, Arthur was safe from the bottom three. Even if he was, he'd still be safe anyway. He was very excited. Another week went up and the theme was Everly Brothers and Arthur was planning to do All I Have To Do is Dream, which he had good comments on it. He would hit the right note every time. Thanks to the voters, he was moving forward again.
On Friday, his friends came to Hollywood and decided to stay for the weekend.
"How is it so far?" asked Francine.
"I've doing fine and I've been moving forward," replied Arthur.
"Awesome," said Buster.
"I know," agreed Arthur.
"What theme are they doing next?" asked Muffy.
"I heard they're doing Barry Manilow next week," answered Arthur.
"I'm glad you've been doing well," said Francine.
"Me, too. I feel comfortable on stage according to the judges the other night," said Arthur.
"That's a good thing," said Brain.
"I know. Poor Binky is going to keep on losing the bet every time I move forward," said Arthur as they all laughed.
"This would be good for Timmy one day," said Muffy.
"I don't think he would be a singer. He perfers to be an actor for now," said Arthur. "He wants to do both when he gets older, not at age 12."
"That's true," agreed Francine.
Later, at the park, Arthur and the others were having a picnic lunch. Mrs. Read had decided to join them. Arthur was having a vanilla milkshake. After lunch, he didn't look too good. Back at the hotel, Arthur rushed right to the bathroom in a jiffy. He was still in there after a minute.
"I should see if he's alright in there," said Mrs. Read as she went to knock on the door. "Are you alright in there, honey?"
"Yeah. The milkshake didn't agree with me," replied Arthur. "I might be in here for awhile."
"Okay," said Mrs. Read.
He didn't come out until about two minutes later.
"Are you going to be okay now?" asked his mother.
"I'll be alright," replied Arthur.
Ten to fifteen minutes later, he rushed back to the bathroom. The milkshake continued to go through him.
"I bet the milkshake still didn't agree with him," said Mrs. Read to herself.
That was when he came out about a minute later.
"I think I'll lay off the milkshakes for now," said Arthur.
"I don't blame you," agreed Mrs. Read.
"I never had them, so I wasn't sure if it would agree with me or not," said Arthur.
Week six had already flew by when Arthur did A Gift of Love by Barry Manilow. He was on fire with these songs according all three judges. The following day, he was moving onto week seven, which would be Dean Martin theme.

"That song was just right for you," said Randy. "I love it the way you sing like the regular artist."
"I totally agree and you totally rock," said Paula.
"You're one of the best performers ever tonight," added Simon.
The following day, he learned he was in another round.
"Oh, my gosh," said Arthur who was thrilled.
On Friday night, Arthur was already in bed by ten. He had a busy week since he gets to sing National Anthem for a baseball game for L.A. Dodgers, so he was getting very lucky. He could imagine that he's getting closer to become American Idol. On Tuesday, they did Frank Sinatra as a theme and their mentor was his daughter, Nancy. Arthur decided to do The Way You Look Tonight. Once again, his performance was success and was loved by the judges.
Because of that, he was safe by the voters who loved him. He couldn't believe it at all! He hopes he'll achieve his goal by making it to the finale.
