Arthur belongs to Marc Brown and I made Sammy & Danny up.
Thank you for understanding.
---
One rainy Monday morning at Lakewood Elementary School, in Mr. Ratburn’s classroom, the class was studying for a spelling test. They had five to ten minutes to do so. In fact, they were having a spelling bee to determine who would go on to the next round, which would be held the next week.
Five minutes later, Mr. Ratburn stood at his desk.
“Okay, class, it’s time for day one of spelling bee week. The winner—or winners—will go onto the next round,” Mr. Ratburn announced.
The class lined up right away, and Mr. Ratburn started with Brain, one of Arthur’s best friends.
“Alan, spell Helium,” Mr. Ratburn said.
“Helium. H-e-l-i-u-m. Helium,” Brain said confidently.
“Correct,” Mr. Ratburn replied.
He went to Francine who was another one of Arthur’s best friends.
“Francine, spell hippopotamus,” Mr. Ratburn told her.
“Hippopotamus. H-i-p-o-p-o-t-a-m-u-s. Hippopotamus,” Francine replied.
“Sorry, that’s incorrect,” Mr. Ratburn said.
Francine went to sit down next to Arthur, since whenever a student spelled a word wrong another student got a chance to spell it right.
“Arthur, spell hippopotamus.” Mr. Ratburn said, turning toward him.
“Hippopotamus. H-i-p-p-o-p-o-t-a-m-u-s. Hippopotamus,” Arthur said slowly.
“Correct,” Mr. Ratburn said.
A few students later, the last speller was Jenna.
“Jenna, spell pleasant,” Mr. Ratburn told her.
“Pleasant. P-l-e-a-s-a-n-t. Pleasant,” Jenna spelled.
“Correct.” Mr. Ratburn turned to the kids. “Alan, Arthur, and Jenna are our day one winners. You three will go on in the library tomorrow after the announcements for the next round.”
The others applauded.
At lunch, Molly, an ex-tough customer, came over to Arthur and his friends.
“Hey glasses,” Molly said. “I heard you went on to round two of that spelling bee.”
“Yeah,” Arthur told her. “I studied my eyes out last night.”
“Nice,” Molly commented. “Watch out—Rattles made it to round two, and he’s an excellent speller.”
Arthur smacked his head on the table, and Brain groaned.
“You’ll both crush him. We’re sure of it,” Buster said.
“I’ll bet Brain and I could beat Rattles,” Arthur asked.
“How much you bet?” Molly replied.
“How about a dollar?” Arthur asked.
“Ha,” Molly said. “Good luck, glasses.”
“I’ll go tell him” Arthur said. “I really am a good speller.”
“Yeah, so he better watch out.” Buster said. “Same with Brain.”
“Don’t tell him I said that,” Molly commanded Arthur. “Just tell him it was a friend.” Molly winked.
Arthur nodded as he got up and walked over to Rattles.
“Your friend told me you’re an excellent speller,” Arthur told him.
“You bet I am,” Rattles replied.
“Watch out, because I’m a good speller too,” Arthur warned Rattles. “So is Brain."
“Bet you both can’t beat me.” Rattles said confidently.
“Oh really? We bet you a dollar then,” Arthur told him.
“You’re on.” Rattles agreed to the bet, sticking out a hand for Arthur to shake. Arthur took Rattle’s hand and Rattles shook it firmly.
Arthur sat back down at his lunch table.
“He agreed to the bet!” Arthur announced.
“Alright! Go Arthur! Go Brain!” the kids cheered.
Just then, Mr. Haney walked in, ready to give an announcement, “Attention, boys and girls. There will be try-outs for a surprise movie for anyone to try out for. The try-outs will be held after school tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. The chosen cast will be posted Monday in front of my office. Good luck to you all."
"Cool. A surprise movie," Arthur said. “We should all try out. Really.”

Arthur belongs to Marc Brown while Sammy and Danny belongs to me I’m working on that book.
Notes: Sammy and Danny are twins who met one summer day at a park. They were in foster care after their parents took off to be safe during a house fire when it was about to blow up.
--
After lunch, the kids were in the classroom because it was still raining hard, so they watched a movie. It was E.T., and it was actually good. After that, Arthur was studying for round two of the spelling bee, which would be in the library.
“Island. I-s-l-a-n-d,” Arthur spelled to himself, without looking at the words.
Arthur continued on by flipping to the next pages. When he got to a word he wanted to spell, he looked up.
“Potato. P-o-t-a-t-o,” Arthur spelled to himself proudly.
After school, when Arthur got home, he noticed a guest his mother had brought home with her.
“Arthur, this is Patricia Dimes from Paris, France. She’ll be staying with us for a little while. My friend Paula was planning to take Patricia in, but she lost her son after being killed, so I offered to,” Mrs. Read said.
“Hi, Patricia, nice to meet you,” Arthur said politely.
“Same here,” Patricia said. “You can call me Tricia, or Pat for short. It’s up to you.”
“Ok,” Arthur said.
“She’ll be staying in our guest room. She already unpacked her stuff, so she’s all set.” Mrs. Read told her son.
“Ok,” Arthur said again.
As Mrs. Read left, Patricia said, “My father was captured and is reported missing in action. That’s why I’m here.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Arthur told her.
“Thank you,” Patricia said.
At dinnertime, Patricia had already finished her dinner and was sitting quietly.
“How do you like it here so far?” Mr. Read asked.
“Fine, thank you,” Patricia said.
“What about your family?” D.W. asked.
“D.W., it’s not polite to ask people questions that will upset them,” Arthur warned his sister.
“Thank you, dear.” Mrs. Read replied. “Your brother is right, D.W., it can really upset them.”
“I’m getting tired. May I please leave the table?” Patricia asked.
“Of course you can, Pat.” Mrs. Read smiled.
Patricia got up and left the table to the guestroom upstairs.
“What’s wrong with her?” D.W. asked.
“She’s in a new place, away from her family, and she came here alone,” Mrs. Read replied. “Wouldn’t you be upset?”
“Do you want me to see if she’s ok?” Arthur asked.
“Yes, thank you,” Mrs. Read said.
He got up, cleared his spot and went upstairs. There, he knocked on the guestroom door.
“Come in,” Patricia called from inside.
Arthur came in and asked, “Are you ok?”
“I’ll be alright. It upset me a little,” Patricia said. “I hope they’ll find my father.”
“I’m sure they will. Never give up hope,” Arthur replied.
“Thanks.” Patricia smiled. “My mother died when I was six when our little apartment was hit by a bomb, so my father and I escaped from London, England to Paris, France.”
“That’s awful,” Arthur said.
“I had a sleeping bag from Paris, France when I used to vacation there. It had Madeline on it.” Patricia told him.
“Wow, that’s cool.” Arthur commented. “What happened to it? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Thanks for checking on me for that. The same year my mother died, everything, including the sleeping bag, was burned,” Patricia explained.
“I’m sorry for everything that happened to you. Your mother, too,” Arthur said.
“Thank you, Arthur.” Patricia smiled.
“Not a problem. If you want to talk to about, you can; if not, that’s fine, too.” Arthur replied.
“Ok,” Patricia said.
In Arthur’s room, he was on his bed studying his words for the next day’s round. He looked up.
“Mississippi. M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i,” Arthur spelled to himself.
Arthur kept on.
“Orphan. O-r-p-h-a-n,” Arthur spelled to himself, now quite confident.
Arthur heard a knock as Mrs. Read opened the door.
“We’re having milkshakes. Want some?” Mrs. Read asked.
“No thanks,” Arthur replied.
“Ok. If you change your mind, I’ll save some for you,” Mrs. Read said, smiling.
“Ok. Thanks,” Arthur said.
Then he continued on and looked up.
“Tomato. T-o-m-a-t-o,” Arthur spelled to himself.
He was really ready for tomorrow.

----
In the middle of the night, Patricia was calling out to her father in her sleep.
“No! No! Dad!” Patricia called out.
Then the nightmare started.
Patricia and her father were at the park together, and Patricia was playing in the sandbox. Ten minutes later, when she looked up, there was no sign of her father.
“Dad! Where are you?” Patricia called out.
“Don’t worry. I just saw someone capture him. I just called the police and they’re on their way, dear,” The park ranger said.
“Thank you, sir.” Patricia said as the dream ended.
“No! No! Dad! No!” Patricia called out. “No! No!”
Arthur heard her and came in to her room.
“No! No!” Patricia continued shouting.
“Pat, it’s ok,” Arthur said.
Patricia woke up and suddenly noticed him there.
“You were having a bad dream,” Arthur whispered.
“I miss my father so much,” Patricia replied sadly.
“I know, it’ll be ok,” Arthur said.
The next day, Patricia had been enrolled at Lakewood Elementary School.
“Everyone, we have a new student. Her name is Patricia Dimes, and she’s from Paris, France,” Mr. Ratburn announced.
After the announcements, Arthur, Jenna, and Brain headed off to the library for round two of the spelling bee. Mr. Haney was hosting round two.
“Congratulations to the ones who made it to round two today and good luck. The first word is for Alan.” Brain stepped forward as Mr. Haney spoke. “Alan, spell pollen.”
“Pollen. P-o-l-e-n,” Brain spelled.
“Sorry. That’s incorrect, so you’ll have to sit down,” Mr. Haney said while Arthur stepped ahead. “Arthur, spell pollen.”
“Pollen. P-o-l-l-e-n,” Arthur said.
“Correct,” Mr. Haney said. “The next word is for Jenna. Jenna, spell pair.”
“Can you use that in a sentence please?” Jenna asked.
“Certainly. ‘A pair of jeans,’” Mr. Haney replied.
“Pair. P-a-i-r,” Jenna spelled.
“Correct,” Mr. Haney said. “The next word is for Rattles. Rattles, spell immature.”
“Immature. I-m-a-t-u-r-e,” Rattles said, confidently.
“I’m sorry, that’s incorrect.” Mr. Haney said. “This word will go to Arthur.” It was the last word, and Arthur was getting nervous.
“Immature. I-m-m-a-t-u-r-e,” Arthur spelled, trying to sound confident.
“Correct.” Mr. Haney said. “That means you and Jenna will move on to round three tomorrow, which will take place in the auditorium. The next three kids will be here tomorrow. The final round will be on Friday night in the auditorium at six o’ clock for the ones who make it.”
Arthur and Jenna gave each other a high-five. At lunch, Arthur walked up to Rattles.
“Looks like someone owns me a dollar. Just me, since Brain lost,” Arthur said. “Cough it up, please.”
Rattles took out four quarters and gave them to Arthur.
“Thank you,” Arthur replied as he left to go sit.
“Good. You won that bet. I guess Rattles isn’t an excellent speller after all,” Brain whispered. “You’re a great speller.”
“Why, thank you,” Arthur said.
They laughed. After school, the kids, including Arthur, were in the auditorium for the movie try-outs.
“Welcome to the try-outs. The surprise is that we’ll be doing the movie Sammy and Danny,” Mr. Haney announced as Mr. Landry stood up. “This is Mr. Landry. He is the visitor from the Hollywood Studios.”
“Hello, kids, I’m glad to be here to direct the three-day try-outs. Today, day one, is for the first half of the students. Good luck to you all.” Mr. Landry replied. “The boys who want to play Sammy and Danny raise your hands.”
Half of the boys, including Arthur, raised their hands.
“Ok. We’ll make this special for you; we’ll do a screen test for each of you. Sammy try-outs go on one side and Danny try-outs go on the other.”
Arthur got up and went to the Sammy side. They were doing the part when Sammy and Danny meet. On the stage, Arthur was the fourth to try-out. It began where Arthur, as Sammy, bumped into another boy.
“Is it me or do we look exactly alike?” asked Arthur.
“I know. Weird,” said a boy named Peter Johnson. “I’m Danny Wells.”
Tommy Sanders back up as Alex and Henry Johnson, Jr. as Tony came.
“Sammy, are you ok?” asked Tommy.
“Whoa is it me or am I seeing double?” asked Henry. “Isn’t he the one you talked about in the story you told me? About that kid in the park?”
“That’s right, it is,” Tommy said.
“It’s nice to meet you boys,” said Peter. “I’m Danny Wells.”
“That’s my last name, too. I’m Sammy,” said Arthur.
“Didn’t you also tell me that you hoped you’d meet each other?” asked Henry.
“You’re right,” said Arthur.
“What does he mean?” asked Peter.
“Well, Sammy tells me a story about it every night. Even during the night,” Henry added.
“You must be Tony. Your twin Leo tells me all about you,” Peter said.
“You mean he’s here, too?” asked Henry excitedly.
“That’s right; he’s over there, near the swing. He’s been missing you a lot,” said Peter.
“Really? I missed him, too,” said Henry.
Then Henry left to Paul Mendes as Leo excitedly.
“I just turned eleven on May 19th. I was born in 1944,” said Arthur.
“Really? Same here,” said Peter, who then noticed Arthur was holding something. “What is that you’re holding?”
“My locket I got it at birth. It has a ‘S’ on it and it’s silver,” said Arthur.
“Really? I did, too only it has a ‘D’ on and it’s gold,” said Peter.
“That’s odd,” said Arthur.
“I know,” said Peter.
“Sammy, lunchtime,” Tommy said.
“Ok, I have to go now. We’re having a picnic here,” said Arthur, then walked off.
“Sammy, wait,” said Peter as Arthur turned around. “This is the weirdest thing that ever happened to me.”
“I know what you mean, if my last name is yours, we both have the same lockets sort of, and we were both born on May 19, 1944 then you and I are like siblings,” said Arthur getting excited.
“We’re more than just siblings, Sammy, you and I are twins,” said Peter.
Arthur was happy and they hugged.
“This is exciting, it’s like a story come true and Tony was right I did mention this when I tell him a story every night including during the night when he gets bad dreams before he goes back to sleep,” said Arthur. “I just don’t know what to say about this day it’s odd this day finally came.”
“I know,” said Arthur.
They hugged again.
“That was a wonderful act.” Mr. Landry commented.
“Thank you.” Arthur and Peter said at the same time.
“You did a good job, Peter.” Arthur commented.
“Thanks you too,” Peter said back.
“I haven’t seen you around before.” Arthur said.
“I’ve been here since September. I have Miss Sweethingyer as my third grade teacher,” Peter explained.
“She’s nice,” Arthur said.
“Yeah she’s cool. I find she makes everything fun.” Peter said.
“Do you live around here?” Arthur asked as they sat next to each other in the front row.
“Yes, I live with my Aunt Ellis and Uncle Tom. I’m an orphan,” Peter explained. “See, my mom and dad were on their way to Florida by train for their tenth wedding anniversary when it got derailed last summer. About sixteen people were dead—mom and dad were two of them. I was with my Aunt Ellis and Uncle Tom at that time.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Arthur said.
“Thank you, Arthur.” Peter smiled. “When I heard about that, I was upset.”
“I would be, too,” Arthur replied.
“Are you the one who lives on Main Street?” Peter asked.
“Yes,” Arthur answered.
“I live not too far from you—we’re only about two blocks apart,” Peter replied.
“Terrific. Maybe if you and I get the part, we could practice at each other’s houses,” Arthur said.
“Good idea.” Peter agreed. “I like that idea.”
“How about we do that every weekend?” Arthur asked. “I’ll come over on one weekend and you can come over on the other weekend.”
“Sounds like a plan to me,” Peter replied.
After the try-outs, Arthur and Peter walked out together.
“I also heard that you’re a good speller,” Peter commented, making small talk.
“Sure am,” Arthur told him. “I just made it to round three.”
“Gosh. You must be really good speller,” Peter said.
“It’s because I studied. In order to be a good speller, you must study. Depends if you make it on the next round or not,” Arthur replied.
“Oh, yeah, that’d make sense.” Peter said as they laughed.

Arthur belongs to me while Sammy and Danny is mine.
I would like to thank my beta reader, bsc9999.
----
That night, at home, in Arthur’s room, he was studying for round three as he looked up, he spelled, “Grandparent. G-r-a-n-d-p-a-r-e-n-t.” Arthur spelled as he turned to the next few pages. “Elephant. E-l-e-p-h-a-n-t.”
Mrs. Read knocked on the door when Arthur was looking up.
“Yahtzee. Y-a-h-t-z-e-e." Arthur spelled as Mrs. Read opened the door.
“Time for dinner, Arthur.” Mrs. Read said.
“I’ll be down in a second.” Arthur replied as he turned to the last word.
“Ok. Take your time.” Mrs. Read said.
Then he looked up.
“Zebra. Z-e-b-r-a.” Arthur spelled as he closed the book.
He knew he was ready for tomorrow’s round three.
At dinner, Arthur didn’t eat much because he felt his stomach was bothering him.
Mrs. Read noticed, and asked, “You didn’t eat much. Are you ok, honey?”
“My stomach’s bothering me. Can I leave the table, Mom?” Arthur asked.
“Sure you can.” Mrs. Read said.
“I’ll just probably lie down for a while.” Arthur replied.
Arthur got up as he cleared the table and went upstairs to his room to lie down. After dinner, Mrs. Read went to see if he was alright, and when she did, she noticed he was asleep. She felt his head. He was very warm.
She shut his curtains and left the room to let him sleep. In the middle of the night, Arthur felt worse as he got up and went to his mother.
“Mom, do you have any medicine for my stomach?” Arthur asked.
“Sure, let’s go check.” Mrs. Read replied.
They did. She found Tums for upset stomachs.
“Here, honey. That should make you feel better shortly.” Mrs. Read whispered.
“Thanks.” Arthur whispered as he took one Tums. “Can I sleep with you tonight, Mom?”
“Sure.” Mrs. Read whispered.
That’s what he did. He felt a little better the following day.
“Are you well enough to go to school today?” Mrs. Read asked.
“I feel a little better. I should be all right.” Arthur said as she felt his head.
“Your fever is going down. If you still feel sick, you can go to the nurse. I’ll give you a Tums in case your stomach still bothers you.” Mrs. Read said.
“Ok. Thanks.” Arthur replied.
She did that as he puts the Tums in the backpack.
“Should I let the nurse know first?” Arthur asked.
“Good idea.” Mrs. Read replied.
Then he and Patricia left for school. At school, after the announcements, the kids were in the auditorium for the round three. The ones that made it were Arthur, Jenna, Peter, Prunella, and Oliver. Prunella and Oliver Jones were in the fourth grade.
“Welcome to round three, and congratulations to the ones who made this far. Good luck.” Mr. Haney said. “The first word goes to Arthur.”
Arthur went up to the microphone.
“Arthur, spell entertainer.” Mr. Haney said.
“Entertainer. E-n-t-e-r-t-a-i-n-e-r,” Arthur spelled.
“Correct.” Mr. Haney said as Arthur went to sit. “Next up is Jenna.”
She went up to the microphone.
“Jenna, spell Mississippi,” Mr. Haney said.
“Mississippi. M-i-s-s-i-s-i-p-p-i,” Jenna spelled.
“Sorry, that’s incorrect.” Mr. Haney replied as she left the stage. “That word now goes to Peter.”
“Mississippi. M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i.” Peter spelled.
“That is correct.” Mr. Haney replied as Peter went to sit down next to Arthur.
“Good job, Peter.” Arthur commented as he gave Peter a high-five.
“Thanks! Same to you.” Peter said back.
Prunella went up to the microphone.
“Prunella, spell aardvark.” Mr. Haney said.
“Aardvark. A-r-d-v-a-r-k.” Prunella spelled.
“Sorry, that’s incorrect.” Mr. Haney told her as she left. “That word now goes to Oliver.”
“Aardvark. A-a-r-d-v-a-r-k.” Oliver spelled.
“Correct.” Mr. Haney replied. “That means Arthur, Oliver, and Peter will move on to round four this afternoon at one o’ clock and the round five is the final round Friday so it’ll give the ones who made it more time to study the words tonight and tomorrow. Good luck, boys. So far four more made it, too, and will be here to join you, so there will be seven of you Friday night.”
“Depends who made it this afternoon.” Arthur replied.
“Thank you for reminding me, Arthur.” Mr. Haney said. “See all three of you back here at one o’ clock.”
“Geez, Arthur, that was amazing.” Peter replied.
“I even bet Rattles on it the day before that I can beat him in the library—and guess what? He owed me a dollar.” Arthur told him as they laughed.
At lunch, Arthur was studying the words while having lunch. Peter was with Arthur because they were planning to study together. The rest came as soon as they got their lunch.
“Can we join you?” Francine asked.
“Sure.” Arthur replied. “I’m just studying my words for this afternoon.”
“You mean you made it to round five?” Francine asked. “I came to school late because I had a doctor’s appointment. I just arrived, like, twenty minutes ago.”
“I made it, too.” Peter added.
“Have we met before? You look so familiar,” Brain remarked to Peter.
“I’m Peter Riverson. I’ve had Miss Sweethingyer for my third grade teacher since September.” Peter told them.
“He also lives not too far from me.” Arthur added.
“How did you both meet?” Muffy asked.
“At the try-outs yesterday. Did you hear what the surprise movie was?” Peter asked.
“No, we’re trying-out today.” Brain said.
“The surprise movie is going to be Sammy and Danny.” Arthur said.
“Cool.” Buster said.
“My cousin did this play in California. He played Sammy. He told me all about it.” Arthur said.
“Wow!” The rest exclaimed.
“Did he have fun?” Buster asked.
“He sure did.” Arthur replied proudly.
“Sweet,” Patricia said. “How old is your cousin?”
“Twelve.” Arthur told her.
After lunch, at recess, Arthur wasn’t playing anything because he was too busy studying for round five as he looked up.
“Thunderstorm. T-h-u-n-d-e-r-s-t-o-r-m.” Arthur spelled to himself.
Muffy came to him.
“Aren’t you going to come and play?” Muffy asked.
“Not now. I’m studying for round five. It’s at one o’ clock!” Arthur said. “Maybe after I finish, if we have time before we go back.”
Arthur got up and went inside as he saw Mr. Ratburn.
“Can I go to the library to study the words for round five?” Arthur said.
“That would be fine with me.” Mr. Ratburn replied.
“Thanks. I just some peace and quiet to study.” Arthur told his teacher.
He did go to the school library, and he continued to study. He used a dictionary to help him study the spelling words.
Arthur flipped through the pages as he looked up.
“Treasure. T-r-e-a-s-u-r-e.” Arthur spelled to himself quietly.
At that moment, Peter arrived.
“I’m guessing you came here for peace and quiet.” Peter remarked.
“How did you guess?” Arthur asked.
“Just a lucky guess. I figured I’d need peace and quiet, too.” Peter replied.
“Yeah.” Arthur agreed.
At twelve-thirty, the announcements about round five came on as the class left the room. When they got there, Arthur went backstage. He spotted Peter there.
“So, are you all set for round five?” Peter asked.
“Sure am. Are you?” Arthur asked.
“Yup,” Peter replied.
At one o’ clock, round five began. Besides the boys, there were Pollyanna, Mariah, and Caroline who had passed to that round. They were in the fifth grade.
“Welcome to round five. Good luck to the contestants.” Mr. Haney said. “The first word goes to Oliver.”
He went to the microphone.
“Oliver, spell treehouse.” Mr. Haney said.
“Treehouse. T-r-e-e-h-o-u-s-e.” Oliver spelled.
“Correct. Next up is Arthur.” Mr. Haney announced as Arthur went to the microphone. “Arthur, your word is combustible.”
“Combustible. C-o-m-b-u-s-t-i-b-l-e.” Arthur said confidently.
“Correct. Next is Peter.” Mr. Haney announced as Peter came up to the microphone. “Peter, spell mushroom.”
“Mushroom. M-u-s-h-r-o-o-m,” Peter spelled.
“Correct. Next is Pollyanna.” Mr. Haney said as the fifth grader came up to the microphone. “Pollyanna, spell hurricane.”
“Hurricane. H-u-r-i-c-a-n-e.” Pollyanna spelled.
“I’m sorry, but that’s incorrect. That word goes to Mariah.” Mariah came up to the microphone.
“Hurricane. H-u-r-r-i-c-a-n-e.” the fifth grader said proudly and confidently.
“Correct. The last word is for Caroline.” Mr. Haney said as the tall girl came up to the microphone. “Caroline, spell champion.”
“That’s easy. Champion. C-h-a-m-p-i-o-n.” Caroline spelled.
“Correct. That means five of you have moved onto the final round. It will take place Friday night, so you have tonight and tomorrow night to study. It will be held at seven o’clock in the auditorium. I’ll see you all there.” Mr. Haney announced. “Assembly dismissed.”
They left to their classrooms.
“Good luck, Arthur. See you after school; I’ll meet you out front.” Peter said.
“Ok. Want to come over so we can study together? We can challenge each other.” Arthur replied.
“Good idea. I’ll ask my Aunt Ellis on the way out I’ll meet you out of my classroom, then we can ask Mr. Haney if we can use his phone.” Peter said.
“Ok.” Arthur replied. “See you then.”
He walked cheerfully to his classroom.
“My, I find he’s nice to you.” Brain said.
“I do too. He’s also friendly to you guys.” Arthur reminded them. “We also planned if he and I got the parts of Sammy and Danny; we’ll be going to each other houses each weekend to practice. Starting when they met for the first time for about eleven years after their parents took off after a house fire and the house blew up. Then a couple days later, they were separated to different children’s homes for foster care. Sammy never met his twin until he met his twin.”
“Cool.” The rest replied.
“You know the summary?” Brain asked.
“Sure do. My cousin explained it to me.” Arthur told his friends.
After school, Arthur was waiting for Peter, who was on the phone with his Aunt Ellis. When he came out two minutes later, he was happy.
“Aunt Ellis said it was all right with her.” Peter said.
“Awesome! Let’s go!” Arthur replied.
So they did. They talked happily on the way home. When they got to Arthur’s house, his Grandmother was there.
“Hi, Grandma Thora.” Arthur greeted her.
“Hi, honey, who’s your new friend?” His grandmother asked.
“This is Peter Riverson. He lives not too far from here.” Arthur said. “Peter, this is my Grandmother.”
“Nice to meet you, Mrs. Read.” Peter said.
“Nice to meet you, too, dear.” Grandmother smiled. “You can call me Grandma if you want since we have two Mrs. Reads me and Arthur’s mom.”
“Okay, fine with me.” Peter agreed to the deal.
“My daughter-in-law will be home soon, she’s an accountant and my son’s a caterer.” Grandmother Thora told Peter.
“Sounds like an exciting career even when you catering fun events like weddings, banquets at any place, and mostly funerals.” Peter said.
“He enjoys it.” said Grandma Thora.
“We’ll be challenging each other with spelling words, since we both made it to the final round Friday night at seven o’ clock in the auditorium, so everyone’s welcome.” Arthur told his grandmother.
“Good for you, boys.” Grandmother Thora said.
“We’ll be outside in the treehouse.” Arthur said.
“You have a treehouse?” Peter asked.
“Sure do.” Arthur replied. “Let’s go.”
“How long are you staying, honey?” Grandmother Thora asked Peter.
“I can stay as long as I like. I’ve been living with my Aunt Ellis and Uncle Tom since last summer.” Peter said.
“How about your parents?” Grandmother Thora asked.
“I don’t have any parents. They died in a train accident while going to Florida for their tenth wedding anniversary.” Peter replied.
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, dear.” Grandmother Thora said.
“Thank you.” Peter replied.
“Want me to bake some cookies while you’re at it? I’ll call you in when they’re ready so you can take a break.”
“Ok, thank you.” Peter and Arthur said at the same time.
The two boys went outside.
“Wow, nice treehouse.” Peter commented.
“Thanks.” Arthur replied. “My friends and I hang out in here a lot.”
When they got in the treehouse, they took out their dictionaries and started studying.
“I’ll challenge you first.” Arthur replied.
“Ok.” Peter said agreeing.
“Ready?” Arthur asked.
“As ready as you are.” Peter said as they laughed. “I’ll bet you anything that I’ll beat you.”
“Oh really? How much?” Arthur asked.
“$4.00 on the big night.” Peter said.
“You’re on.” Arthur said as he gave Peter a high-five. “Spell Handyman.”
“Handyman. H-a-n-d-y-m-a-n.” Peter spelled.
“Correct. Next word is Mississippi.” Arthur said.
“Mississippi. M-i-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i.” Peter spelled.
“Sorry, but that’s incorrect. Mississippi is spelled M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i. You only left out an ‘I’, that’s all.” Arthur replied.
“Ok. I’ll challenge you now. How about each time we get any words wrong we’ll switch?” Peter asked.
“Ok. I don’t think I’ll miss a single word.” Arthur teased.
“We’ll see how about that.” Peter laughed. “Your first word is mansion.”
“That’s easy. Mansion. M-a-n-s-i-o-n.” Arthur spelled.
“Correct. Spell tiger.” Peter said.
“Tiger. T-i-g-e-r.” Arthur spelled.
“Correct. Now spell snowman.” Peter replied.
“Snowman. S-n-o-w-m-a-n.” Arthur spelled.
“Correct. Try to spell Massachusetts.” Peter said.
“Massachusetts. M-a-s-s-a-c-h-u-s-e-t-t-s.” Arthur spelled.
“Gosh you’re good.” Peter commented. “Spell operation.”
“Operation. O-p-e-r-a-t-i-o-n.” Arthur spelled.
“Spell Tennessee.” Peter said.
“Tennessee. T-e-n-n-e-s-s-e-e.” Arthur spelled.
Thirty minutes later, the cookies were ready.
“Boys, the cookies are ready.” Grandmother Thora called the boys.
“Goody. Snack time.” Arthur said. “That’s spelled s-n-a-c-k-t-i-m-e.”
They went down from the treehouse and went inside for the cookies.
“Boy, I must admit Arthur is an excellent speller we decided that if we each spell any words wrong, we’d switch, he’s been spelling every single word right.” Peter said.
“That because he studies very hard.” Grandmother Thora told Peter.
“Geez.” Peter replied.
“You bet I do study hard.” Arthur replied as they laughed. “We’ll continue after this.”
“Plus, we even bet $4.00 that one of us would win.” Peter added.
“You got that right.” Arthur said.
Then he heard the door open and shut.
“That’s probably Mom.” Arthur said.
It was Mrs. Read.
“Hi, Mom.” Arthur replied.
“Hi, sweetie, how was your day today?” Mrs. Read asked.
“Good. I made it to the final round. It’s on Friday night at seven o’ clock.” Arthur told his mother.
“That’s terrific.” Mrs. Read said. “I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks. I brought my new friend over today we planned to study our words we both made it to final round.” Arthur replied. “He’s in the kitchen we were having cookies.”
Peter came out.
“Hi, I’m Peter Riverson.” Peter greeted.
“Nice to meet you. I’m his mother, Mrs. Jane Read.” Mrs. Read greeted back.
“I live around here two streets away with my Aunt Ellis and Uncle Tom I lived there since after my parents died last summer in a train accident.” Peter explained.
“My.” Mrs. Read said.
“I also have cousins there I’m pretty close to them. I have four cousins named Tom, Jr., Patrick, Tricia, and her twin Alicia.” Peter said. “Tom’s twelve, Patrick’s ten, and the girls are seven.”
“Do you have more cousins?” Arthur asked.
“Yes I have five other cousins. Eric’s the oldest at fourteen, Timothy’s thirteen, Manny is Patrick’s age, Benny’s nine, I’m the seventh cousin at age eight, and Ricky’s the youngest at age five. All together, I have nine cousins.” Peter explained.
“Wow.” Arthur said. “Did you say Timothy? That’s my middle name.”
“Really? That’s cool.” Peter commented.
“I also have six other Aunts and Uncles. My mother had two brothers and two sisters and my father has two brothers.” Peter continued.
“My, you have a big family.” Mrs. Read said.
“Yup, you bet I do.” Peter said.
“I’m the oldest of three children. I have two younger sisters: D.W. and Kate.” Arthur said.
“You’re lucky; I’m the only child in mine. Well, I had an older sister, Ellis. She was named after my Aunt Ellis, who was my mother’s sister, but Ellis died at age five when I was three. I hardly remember her. She had cancer.” Peter said.
“That’s too bad.” Mrs. Read said sympathetically.
“That’s ok. That was five years ago. She would be ten this year. She died about three months after I turned three. She wasn’t six yet. She was three years older than me.” Peter continued.
That night, after dinner, Arthur was in his room studying his words for Friday.
“Peanut. P-e-a-n-u-t.” Arthur spelled to himself.
Arthur turned over to the next page and looked up.
“Bumblebee. B-u-m-b-l-e-b-e-e.” Arthur spelled to himself.
On Friday, at home, after dinner from five-thirty, Arthur started getting ready for the final round that night. By six-thirty, he and his family left to the school for the spelling bee. At the school, they went inside as Arthur went backstage.
“Good luck, Arthur.” Mrs. Read called after him.
“Thanks, Mom!” Arthur called back as he walked away.
When Arthur got backstage, he was getting a little nervous, but he knew he’d win because he was the best speller of them all.
At seven o’ clock, the match began.
“Welcome to the final round. These are tonight’s spellers.” Mr. Haney announced as the curtain opened up to Arthur, Peter, Caroline, Oliver, and Mariah. “Good luck to you all.”
The audience applauded them.
“The first word goes to Peter.” Mr. Haney said as Peter came up to the microphone. “Peter, spell tomato.”
“Tomato. T-o-m-t-o,” Peter spelled.
“Sorry that’s incorrect.” Mr. Haney replied as Peter left. “That word goes to Arthur.”
“Tomato. T-o-m-a-t-o.” Arthur spelled.
“That’s correct.” Mr. Haney said happily as Arthur went to the chairs. “You’re next, Oliver.”
Oliver went to the microphone.
“Oliver, spell terrific.” Mr. Haney said.
“Terrific. T-e-r-r-i-f-i-c.” Oliver spelled.
“That is correct.” Mr. Haney said as Oliver went to sit. “You’re next, Mariah.”
Mariah went to the microphone.
“Mariah, spell pieces.” Mr. Haney said.
“Pieces. P-e-i-c-e-s.” Mariah spelled.
“Sorry that’s incorrect.” Mr. Haney replied as she left the stage. “That word goes to Caroline.”
“Pieces. P-e-a-c-e-s.” Caroline spelled.
“Sorry that’s incorrect, too.” Mr. Haney told her as she left the stage. “That word goes to Arthur.”
“Pieces. P-i-e-c-e-s.” Arthur spelled.
“That’s correct.” Mr. Haney replied as Arthur went to sit. “You’re up, Oliver.”
He went back to the microphone.
“Oliver, spell monkey.” Mr. Haney said.
“Monkey. M-o-n-k-e-e.” Oliver spelled.
“Sorry that’s incorrect.” Mr. Haney said as Oliver left the stage. “This is your chance to spell this right if you got it right; you’re once again the winner.”
“Monkey. M-o-n-k-e-y.” Arthur spelled.
“That’s correct.” Mr. Haney said. “Which means you’re tonight’s winner for the second time in the row.”
Everyone applauded to him. Arthur couldn’t believe that he won again. He won last September too with the word preparation after Prunella got that wrong. Mr. Haney got Arthur the gold medal this time for winning the second year in the row.
“Congratulations, Arthur.” Mr. Haney replied.
“Thank you.” Arthur smiled.
After that, his family went backstage to him.
“I’m happy for you, dear.” Mrs. Read smiled.
“Congratulations.” Mr. Read replied.
“Thanks, Mom and Dad.” Arthur replied. “This is great that I won for the second year.”
“We should celebrate tomorrow night.” Mr. Read said.
“I agree.” Arthur said.
Peter came to Arthur.
“Good job, Arthur, I guess I owe you $4.00.” Peter said.
“You got it.” Arthur laughing.
Peter took out $4.00 and gave it to Arthur.
“We’re going to celebrate tomorrow night. Want to join us?” Mrs. Read asked.
“Ok, thanks. I’ll ask my Aunt Ellis she and Uncle Tom are in the audience.” Peter said.
Then they came.
“We’re really proud of you, Peter.” Aunt Ellis said.
“Thanks.” Peter replied.
“You must be his new friend, Arthur. Peter told me about you.” Aunt Ellis said.
“You must be his Aunt Ellis and Uncle Tom.” Arthur greeted back.
“His parents just invited me to go celebrate his winning tomorrow night.” Peter told his Aunt Ellis. “So can I go with them?”
“Sure.” His Aunt replied. “That’s a great idea.”
Then Arthur, Peter, and their families left for their houses.

When they got home, Arthur was still excited that he had won. The next day, Peter came over so they could go celebrate that night. Just then, the doorbell rang as Arthur came downstairs to answer the door.
“Telegram for Patricia Dimes.” the man at the door said.
“Thank you, I’ll give it to her.” Arthur replied as he shut the door behind him. “Mom, where’s Patricia? There’s a telegram for her!”
“She’s in the kitchen with your father, sweetie,” Mrs. Read told her son.
He went to the kitchen, looking for Patricia.
“Pat, a telegram just came for you." Arthur told her.
“Ok. Thanks, man, I hope it’ll say my father’s alive.” Patricia said hopefully as she nervously opened the telegram.
As she read it, she got excited.
“He’s alive. He’s in the field hospital. He was found unconscious in the woods, and he just woke up. He will come home for me as soon as he gets well,” Patricia told him happily.
“That’s awesome! I’m happy for you.” Arthur told her.
“Thank you.” Pat smiled and hugged him happily. “I also wish you luck for the cast list.”
“Thanks the cast list isn’t up until Monday.” Arthur said. “I’m excited and a little nervous at the same time.”
That night, the family and Peter did went out to celebrate they decided to go to one of Arthur’s favorite restaurants ‘Once upon a Restaurant’. After that, they dropped Peter off at home as they went home as well.
In the middle of the night, Arthur started having butterflies in his stomach about Monday.
On Monday, in Mr. Ratburn’s class, the announcements came out.
“The cast list for Sammy and Danny is now posted in front of my office.” Mr. Haney announced. “Feel free to go there any time at lunch or on your way to recess or from your teacher during the school day.”
“You can go see, Arthur.” Mr. Ratburn told him.
“What about the others who tried out for the play?” Francine asked.
“Do you want me to look for your names and I’ll let you know?” Arthur asked.
“Sure, that’ll be easier. We’ll write our names and the characters we tried out for.” Brain agreed.
Brain did that and gave that to Arthur. Brain tried out for Alex Walters, Binky tried out for Greg Riverson, Francine tried out for Lee’s sister Lee Anne Young, Muffy tried out for Mary one of Greg’s twin sisters, Jenna tried out Greg’s other twin sister Martha, and Sue Ellen tried out for Michaela Olsen. Arthur went out with a pen and went to the cast list.
Ricky Olivarez, who tried out for Sammy was already there and spotted Sammy, but his name wasn’t near there.
“You got to be kidding me.” Ricky said as he left to his class.
Arthur went there, had that character, and got excited when he spotted his name it was like this: Introducing Arthur Read as Sammy. Then he saw Danny and found Peter’s name near there like this: with Peter Riverson as Danny.
“Wow. Oh, my goodness.” Arthur said happily.
Then he looked for each of his friends’ names. He started with Alex and saw Alan ‘Brain’ Powers as Alex. Then he checked that off by putting yes. Then moved down to Lee Anne and saw Francine Frensky as Lee Anne as he puts yes on near Francine’s name. Then to Greg and saw Binky Barnes as Greg as he puts yes near Binky’s. When he was finished with Sue Ellen, Muffy, and Jenna they each got their parts. Then he saw Peter coming.
“I see you’re already at the cast list.” Peter replied.
“Yes and guess what? You and I got the roles of Sammy and Danny the stars of the play.” Arthur told his new friend excitedly.
“No way.” Peter said as he saw it.
“So are my friends.” Arthur said. “Only Buster didn’t try-out for any parts. Let’s see oh, I see Molly is playing the twins' nurse.”
“Wasn’t Molly one of the tough customers?” Peter asked.
“She used to, but she liked to hang out with real friends.” Arthur told Peter.
“When is our first rehearsal?” Peter asked.
Arthur checked.
“It starts tomorrow.” Arthur read. “So we can switch off this weekend like we planned to.”
“I remembered about that.” Peter said. “Aunt Ellis agreed with that idea.”
“So does my mom.” Arthur nodded.
“I can hardly wait.” Peter said.
“Me either.” Arthur smiled.
Then they walked back to class.
“See you later at lunch.” Arthur said.
“Same here.” Peter said.
Arthur went inside happily.
“We got the parts.” Arthur announced.
“Yay!” His friends cheered.
“Including someone in this class.” Arthur said.
“Who?” Brain asked.
“Me? I’m the star of the play I’ll be playing Sammy.” Arthur said.
“Alright!” Buster cheered as he gave Arthur a high-five.
“Peter is playing Sammy’s twin Danny while Molly is playing Andrea Mills who is a foster mother of the twins. Alice Sweentin and Jack Jones will play the twins' parents who came back less than two weeks later.” Arthur continued.
“You got it.” Arthur said. “The rehearsal starts tomorrow.”
“I can hardly wait for that.” Francine said.
“Peter said the same, I can hardly wait either.” Arthur replied.
They laughed as Patricia came to him.
“Good for you, Arthur, I’m so glad for you.” Pat told him happily.
“Thanks and I can’t wait to tell my mom and my cousin when I call him later tonight.” Arthur replied.
He was very excited about it.

After school, Arthur and Peter walked out the school. The rest were with Arthur, too.
“This is going to be since we’ll be in the same play.” Arthur said excitedly.
“I know. Too bad Buster didn’t try-out for anyone he’d have fun.” Brain said.
“I did I was understudy for Tony remember?” Buster asked.
“I didn’t see your name there that’s why Brain said that.” Arthur told his friend.
“Oh, it was on the bottom.” Buster replied.
“Gosh.” Arthur said.
“I heard the play is going to be a movie outside for real.” Molly said as she came out with an excitement.
“Really? By who?” Arthur asked.
“Mr. Haney. He said he’ll explain about that of course we’ll have rehearsals first before that and he’ll give us the date at the first rehearsal tomorrow.” Molly explained.
“Wow.” Arthur said.
“That sounds very exciting.” Patricia said.
When he, Patricia, and his friends got home, Arthur noticed his mother was home early with a guest.
“Hi, Arthur, this is Paula the one who was going to take Patricia in.” Mrs. Read. “Paula, this is my son, Arthur.”
“Nice to meet you, Paula.” Arthur greeted her.
“Same here, dear.” Paula said.
“Guess what? My father was found alive in the woods he’s in the field hospital right now and when he gets well, he’ll be here for me.” Patricia said.
“That’s wonderful, Pat. Did you enjoy your stay here?” Paula asked.
“Yes, very much, so I want to stay here until my father gets me.” Patricia said.
“Ok. That’s fine by me.” Paula smiled. “I also see you made some friends.”
“I sure did.” Patricia smiled back.
“My friends are Buster, Muffy, Brain, Molly, Francine, Jenna, Sue Ellen, and Binky. This is my new friend, Peter.” Arthur introduced them to Paula.
“Nice to meet you all.” Paula greeted them.
“Same here.” The rest greeted back.
“Your mother was telling me about a play coming up in your school.” Paula said. “Who did you try-out for?”
“Sammy and I made the try-outs I’m going to be the star.” Arthur told her.
“Me, too. I’ll be playing Danny, Sammy’s long lost twin after eleven years.” Peter said.
“That’s wonderful maybe I’ll come along to watch you doing it.” Paula replied.
“Sure. Molly just told me she heard that it’s not just going to be a play, it’s going to be a movie.” Arthur told them.
“You bet I did, Mr. Haney will tell us more about it tomorrow at the first rehearsal.” Molly said.
“That sounds fun.” Paula said.
“I can’t wait to tell Timmy all about it, I’ll call him later on since I know he’s still at school. California is three hours behind.” Arthur said.
“Timmy is my husband’s nephew who is his sister’s son.” Mrs. Read said.
“Wow.” Paula said.
“He goes to a special school for studying to be actor it goes up to eighth grade. He’s twelve and in seventh grade.” Arthur added. “He did this play two years ago it was only a play not a movie. He played Sammy and he told me it was fun.”
“Cool.” Paula replied. “Are you the rest in the play?”
“Some of us are. I’m playing Alex, Muffy’s playing one of Greg’s sisters who are twins named Mary, and Jenna’s playing the other twin, Martha. Francine’s playing Lee Anne who is Lee’s sister, Binky’s playing Greg, Sue Ellen is playing Michaela, and Molly is playing Andrea Mills who is the foster mother of Sammy and Danny.” Brain explained.
“Wow that’s cool for all of you in a play.” Paula replied.
“I’m going to be understudy for Tony.” Buster added.
“That’s nice.” Paula said.
“That’s going to be fun.” Brain said.
That night, Arthur went to get the portable phone and dialed Timmy’s number while taking the phone to his room as his Aunt Amy answered.
“Hello?” Aunt Amy asked after picking up the phone.
“Hi, Aunt Amy.” Arthur said.
“Hi, sweetheart, how’s my favorite nephew?” Aunt Amy asked.
“Good. Guess what? Do you know the play of Sammy and Danny that Timmy did two years ago and he played Sammy?” Arthur asked. “Now my school is going to have that play soon, I tried out for Sammy and I got the role, so I’ll be the star of the play.”
“That’s wonderful.” Aunt Amy replied.
“Yeah and it’s going to be the movie. One of my friends heard that from Mr. Haney my principal.” Arthur continued. “That sounds fun to do.”
“I agree.” Aunt Amy said.
“That’s why I’m calling to tell Timmy that.” Arthur replied.
“I’ll get him for you. Hold on for a second.” Aunt Amy said.
She did as Timmy came on.
“Hi, Arthur, mom just told me your news. That’s wonderful.” Timmy replied happily.
“Thanks. I was very excited to see my name on the cast list.” Arthur told his cousin. “My new friend, Peter is playing Sammy’s twin, Danny.”
“Wow even better. When the movie gets closer to date, let me know so I can watch you in the film.” Timmy said.
“Ok.” Arthur said. “I’ll let you know Mr. Haney will be giving us the date at our first rehearsal tomorrow.”
“Alright sounds like a good plan to me.” Timmy agreed. “How about I’ll call you tomorrow night?”
“Ok. Talk to then, bye.” Arthur replied.
After that, it was dinnertime.
“Time for dinner, kids.” Mrs. Read called from the bottom of the stairs.
They all did. Arthur saw it was a special one.
“What is for?” Arthur asked.
“To celebrate about you for making the role of Sammy and Danny.” Mrs. Read replied.
“Wow.” Arthur said.
“Who is he playing?” Mr. Read asked.
“Sammy I’ll be one of the two stars. Peter is the other star he’ll be playing Danny.” Arthur told his father.
“Good for you, sport.” Mr. Read replied.
“I already told Timmy about it, he was glad for me, too.” Arthur replied.
The next day, at the first rehearsal, the entire cast was ready to begin. Arthur was with his friends between Francine and Peter. Then it was time to begin as Mr. Haney came on the stage to the microphone.
“Welcome to your first rehearsal. Now, I also have some news. This will be very interesting, it’s going to be a movie instead of the play and it will take place outside this spring and we’ll be the first ones to watch ourselves. In fact, we’ll be starting making the movie in April it will take about a week or two to make it. It will be in movies on May 25.” Mr. Haney announced.
“That’s my and Muffy's birthday.” Arthur replied happily. “Neat going to see on my birthday. I like that idea.”
“It is?” Peter asked.
“Imagine seeing that on your birthdays.” Sue Ellen said.
“Yea, I’d like that I don’t think we ever had seen a movie like that on our birthdays.” Fern replied.
The rest agreed on that.
“You and I the first one that we’ll be going to see that on our birthday, Arthur.” Muffy said.
“That’s true.” Arthur said. “I can’t wait to tell this to my parents and Timmy he’s calling me tonight.”
“I wonder if they’ll do something special.” Francine wondered.
“There’s one way to find out.” Arthur said.
“Now I’ll be passing out the scripts and the ones that Arthur and Peter used for try-outs are included, too.” Mr. Haney announced.
He did that as he got that to Arthur.
“You know that movie date is my birthday.” Arthur said.
“Really?” Mr. Haney asked as Arthur nodded.
“I’ll be nine.” Arthur said. "Same with Muffy."
Then after Mr. Haney passed all the scripts to everyone, it was time to begin. It went very well so far. Arthur remembered that part when he got to that without looking on the script. Peter was impressed, so he tried that and he did the same without looking. That was the fun day of the rehearsal.
“That was very impressing remembering those parts without using your scripts, boys.” Mr. Haney commented.
“Thanks.” Arthur and Peter said at the same time.
After the rehearsal, Arthur and Peter walked home together since they live closer to each other.
“That was the fun rehearsal.” Arthur replied.
“I know it was.” Peter agreed.
That night, the phone rang as Arthur answered.
“Hello?” Arthur asked.
“Hi, Arthur.” Timmy said.
“Hi, Timmy, what’s up? Oh guess what we’ll be making the movie in April and here’s an amazing part the movie date is on my birthday.” Arthur told his cousin.
“Really? On May 25th?” Timmy asked.
“Yes. I was excited after I heard that. I was like ‘that’s my birthday’.” Arthur replied.
They laughed.
“We had a fun rehearsal. Peter and I remembered our lines we used for try-outs without looking at the script. Mr. Haney was impressed about that.” Arthur said.
“That’s great.” Timmy said. “Maybe I’ll come down or you can visit me and we can go see that movie on your birthday.”
“I like that idea. You can come down you probably haven’t been here for a long time.” Arthur said.
“Ok.” Timmy replied.
“We’d have fun together.” Arthur replied.

Arthur belongs to Marc Brown while Sammy and Danny belongs to me.
--
The next day, at school, they were about to have a math test, which has only ten problems: five multiplication and five division word problems.
“You can write on this worksheet and I’ll give you each a scrap paper. Good luck.” Mr. Ratburn said while he passed the test and the scrap paper around. “You can start when I give you the test and the scrap paper.”
So they did soon after he did that. It only took them 20 minutes to do the test. After the test, they brought the test up to Mr. Ratburn.
“I’ll correct these and give them back to you after recess.” Mr. Ratburn told them.
The bell rang for lunch. Arthur was with Peter and the others. They talked about the play.
“This is going to fun. We’re the first ones to make our play into a movie.” Arthur said.
“I know.” Buster said.
After lunch and recess, Mr. Ratburn passed back the tests. The two highest scores were Arthur and Francine who both had 100. The rest had 90 and 80. None of them failed the math test.
After school, they were in the auditorium for their second rehearsal. They did the twins reunited scene. Arthur and Peter used the ones they used for the try-outs. They remembered that part. The cast had a fun time rehearsing. After the rehearsal, at home, Patricia came to him.
“How was your rehearsal?” Patricia asked.
“It was fun. We did the twins’ reunited scene.” Arthur replied.
“The one that you did for the try-outs, right?” Patricia asked.
“Yes.” Arthur replied.
“When my dad’s getting me, we’re staying here. He called me an hour ago and asked me if we want to stay in the United States for good and I said yes.” Patricia replied.
“That’s terrific.” Arthur said.
“I know and I decided Elwood City because I loved it here.” Patricia replied. “I feel safe here better than Paris or London since you don’t get captured or killed here.”
“I agree. I’m glad you’re staying here.” Arthur said.
“Me too.” Patricia replied.
“When he’s coming?” Arthur asked.
“In two days. He’s recovering.” Patricia replied. “I’m also glad he’s safe and sound.”
“I’m happy for you.” Arthur said.
“Thanks.” Patricia replied.
That night, Arthur had an upset stomach for some reason as he went to his mother.
“Mom, can I have the Tums?” Arthur asked. “I have an upset stomach.”
“Sure, honey.” Mrs. Read replied.
So she did and he went to his room to lie down for awhile. He felt better after he rested for an hour or two. It was dinnertime when he got up after that.
“You look better.” Mrs. Read said.
“Much better. Thanks. Tums help me feel better after an hour or so.” Arthur replied.
“No problem.” Mrs. Read replied.
The next day, after the rehearsal was over, Arthur and his friends were walking over to Peter’s for dinner after their parents said it was fine by then. When they had to go across the street to Peter’s and just as after they got across, a speeding car fled by. When they got in there, they realized Arthur wasn’t with them.
“Where’s Arthur?” Patricia asked as she looked out the window. “Oh, my gosh. Call 911.”
“What it is?” Francine asked.
That was when they noticed him lying on the street as she rushed out to get him to put him on the grass while Peter dialed 911.
“That speeding car must if hit him after we got across.” Francine said.
Peter came out two minutes later.
“The ambulance is on the way. I just called Mrs. Read, too.” Peter told them. “Is he breathing?”
Francine checked as she did CPR. At the hospital, nineteen minutes later, Dr. Wilson came to them. Mrs. Read was with them.
“Arthur is going to be fine. We got him breathing. He just injured his right arm that’s all. He’s going to be in cast for a few days. He’s still unconscious it might take a while for him to be awake.” Dr. Wilson told them.
“Can we all see him?” Francine asked.
“Of course. There’s one more thing if his arm isn’t better before he leaves, we’ll have to do a surgery on it.” Dr. Wilson said.
They did went to see him. He was still unconscious.
“Good thing you noticed, Pat, otherwise he wouldn’t be here.” Peter said.
“I know.” Patricia agreed.
“Thank you, dear.” Mrs. Read said.
“No problem.” Patricia replied.
An hour later, the visiting was over for them while Arthur didn’t wake up yet. The next day, Mr. Ratburn made an announcement.
“Francine told me that Arthur’s in the hospital after he got hit by a speeding car. We can make a get well card today during free time.” Mr. Ratburn told them.
“Ok. That’s a great idea.” Fern said.
So that’s what they did during free time. After school, after the rehearsal, at the hospital, Arthur still didn’t wake up when his friends came. Buster puts the card on the side table. Ten minutes later, Arthur started to wake up and didn’t know where he was.
“What happen? Why am I here?” Arthur asked.
“You got hit by a speeding car.” Francine replied.
“You only injured your right arm and will be in cast for a few days. If it’s not better by the time you leave, they’ll do an operation on it to make it better.” Brain added.
Patricia came in with some news.
“The police found the one who hit you some adult was drinking while driving. He got arrested for that.” Patricia told Arthur.
“Good. He deserves that.” Arthur said.
The others agreed.
